Case Study: Service Database
Concept:
$25M /yr Worldwide Service Organization needed a better solution than what their current Microsoft Excel workbooks were giving.  The Excel sheets were working great for their global techs, but the managers could do no reporting, historical analysis etc.  Adding to the complexity was that the techs had free reign over the Excel sheets, and could modify, add, change.  There was very little consistency across the market, and generating any form of data collection was a daunting task. Needed reports were unknown, as gathering this data was nearly impossible.

Needs: An Information System which could easily import, sort and manage the $25M aftersale business.  The system had to be flexible enough to analyze the workbooks for the aftersale information, and populate a backend database accordingly, which could be easily queried / managed.   Additionally, a Flexible query tool would be needed to allow managers to query, group etc. at will.

Proposal: ImagineOmniMedia proposed a ‘worksheet crawler,’ a backend database, and a seperate front-end for Managers / Admin-staff to interface with.  As the sheets were sent in by the tech, they would be downloaded into a network share, until the Supervisor would cue the system to process witha  click of a button.  A flexible query interface would be created, to allow users to freely create reports on the fly, and allow for any number of grouping, searches, filters etc.

Results: The system processes weekly reports in a matter of seconds, versus a manually processing time of 10+ minutes per sheet. Stat wise that’s something like a 30,000% efficiency upgrade. The flexible query agent performed perfectly, allowing the users to begin the process of deciding which report shells needed to be developed.
