CatGasm.com CaseStudy
The LOLCAT phenomenom was one of the early 90’s. It consisted of a cat picture with a broken enlish caption in ‘kitty speak.’ LOLCAT – WikiPedia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lolcats
Since the phenom is quite old, we were a bit reluctant on if it would even be worthwhile to develop a site around LOLCats. Our team performed some initial research for the customer, and although there were already some major players, http:icanhascheezburger.com, lolcats.com etc. we decided to present our reccomendation for ‘CatGasm.com.’ Our project plan was solid, and pricing extremely reasonable. We worked a tighter deal with our customer and launched Catgasm.com in May of ‘07 with a Devleopment and full SEO package.
30 days after launch Catgasm.com was receiving about 1,000 hits a month. (Typically it takes about 90 days for a site to get moving.) This number grew slightly until our efforts paid off… By September, Catgasm.com was receiving about 10,000 hits a day. We’re even happy to announce we crashed the hosting server several times, and had to adjust bandwith usage etc. As the site was monetized, our customer didn’t mind the minimal raises in hosting costs, as they were making 20 times back what the hosting cost was.
Since the spikes in September / October Catgasm.com is now averaging a maintainable 4,000 – 7,000 hits a day, and hasn’t crashed any servers at all. Our customer even demaned we quickly launch DogGasm.com as a supplemental monetized site!
